ABOVE:  This is a picture of the 1936 Kilties on parade in the 500 block of Main Street in Racine's 4th of July Parade.   This is the
Kilties first public appearance ever!   Note - back in the early days the parade marched North on Main Street, not South like it does
today.

BELOW:  1936 Photo of Harald Kahlert, the Racine Kilties first Drum Major.  Originally a snare drummer, Harald told me that he
was picked for Drum Major because he was very tall.  After aging out of the Kilties at 15 years old, Harald went on to become the
Washington Park High School Band's Drum Major.  Note:  The Kilties were for boys between the ages of 10 and 14 years old back
in the 1930's.  After serving in the US Army in various capacities during World War II, Harald joined Racine's Boys of 76 drum and
bugle corps when he returned from the war in the Pacific.  He played bass drum with them for many years.  Harald also became an
All-American Judge.  Harald judged M & M, Inspection and parades during the 1950's.  Harald is now 84 years old, lives in
Kenosha and is still active with the Racine VFW Firing Squad.
