ABOVE:  1961 Kilties at Cedarburg, Wis.  The above photo appeared in the Milwaukee
Journal Newspaper.

BELOW:  Miami News Photo.   This photo's caption read, "Hot Competition In VFW
Drum And Bugle Contest Takes Its Toll...Even Kilts Didn't Help."   The accompaning
Miami News article went on to state that "The heat and the nervous tension at the end
of a day of intense competition took its toll.   As each costumed unit finished a
13-minute stint on the turf, sudden gaps appeared in the ranks as players keeled over.  
 More than a dozen fainted.   Four Orange Bowl nurses became so efficient at spotting
wavering competitors that they were on hand with spirits of amonia the moment a pair of
knees began to wobble.   Some buglers were carted off to the first aid room on
stretchers, but none had to go to the hospital."
