TOP PHOTO: This is photo #2 of the Kilties that appeared in the Racine Sunday Bulletin, 06-29-69, as part of a feature article on "Drum Corps' Traditions and Modernization". The photo caption simply stated, " Part of the tradition is the headpiece worn by Scott Poulsen, drum major for the YMCA Kilties".

ABOVE: This is the other photo that was part of a feature article in the Racine Sunday Bulletin, 08-10-69, entitled "Practice Is Key Word for Drum, Bugle Corps". This photo's caption read as follows, "This is a typical practice session for the Kilties and all other drum and bugle corps. The unity in competition is only achieved through the monotonous drilling on the practice field. Back and forth they trod the sod with head and back straight, elbows locked at right angles, knees raised and toes pointed at just the right angle. They maintain 24 inches per stride. The Kilts here are marking time and though the knees and toes are close, they have to be perfect in competition. With three four-hour practices a week, they get plenty of opportunity to iron out the wrinkles".
TOP PHOTO: This photo appeared in the Racine Sunday Bulletin, 08-10-69, as part of a feature article entitled, "Practine Is Key Word for Drum, Bugle Corps". The photo caption to this photo was, "One of the problems faced by drum corps is keeping the individual shod. Recent estimate has shown that a member of any corps could possibly walk 650 miles in a given summer. That spells a whole lot of shoe leather, let alone a few bunions. Kiltie Dave Popoff, 14, of 1201 N. Main St., above, afforded the camera a close-up view of what he calls 'shoes.' One advantage a person's feet have a tendency of getting warm with all that walking and Dave keeps his well air-conditioned."
