ABOVE:  This is a 1936 photo of Kilties Drum Major Harald Kahlert taken in front of
his home located at that time at 1224 Racine Street in Racine, WI.

LEFT:  This is the newspaper article which announced that the Kilwanis Kilties will
make their debut in Racine's 1936 Fourth of July parade.  This article appeared in
the Wednesday, July 1, 1936 edition of the Racine Journal Times.

However, the all-boy Racine Kiwanis Kilties were not the only "Kilties"  appearing
here during Racine's 1936 Fourth of July Celebration.  See below....

BELOW:  This is a photo which appeared in the June 30, 1936 issue of the Racine
Journal Times.  It is a photo of the all-girls Kilties Drum Corps of Milwaukee. They
were one of the featured attractions during the July Fourth Celebration in Racine
July 3, 4 and 5, 1936.  Their trip here was sponsored by the Racine County
Veterans Council.  They performed several exhibitions at the Racine Zoo July 4
and 5.  They were guests of the Racine Yacht Club on the Fourth.  They also
performed an exhibition at the Racine Belles baseball game at Horlick Field on
Saturday evening, July 4.

ABOVE:  The latest addition to the Kiltie Junior Corps archives is this snare
drum.  It is a nicely preserved and complete, except for skins, 1935 Ludwig
Junior Parade Drum with center supports, in other words a Ludwig 1935
Model No. 257 which cost $17.50 a piece new.  I purchased it from the estate
of an antique dealer who lived in Franklin, WI.  What made this drum so
interesting to me was that there was a note with this drum which stated that it
belonged to a Nick Matcheck who was a member of the Racine Kilties roughly
70 years ago.  In checking, it appears that this is the same make and model
drum that the Kilties used until April, 1942, when they purchased a new set of
drums to replace these.  Is it an original Kiltie snare drum, I can't say for sure,
but it would certainly seem so.
