In the 1920's the Racine Boys of 76 Drum and Bugle Corps and John Phillip Sousa had an
on-going relationship. During the 1920's John Phillip Sousa directed the Boys of 76 Drum
and Bugle Corps on a couple of occasions and also presented them with an American Flag
during a visit to Racine on September 18, 1928. This relationship probably began during
World War I when some of Racine's musicians wound up playing in John Phillip Sousa's
Great Lakes Naval Base Band, also known as the Blue jacket Band, and after World War I
these same musicians joined the Racine Boys of 76 Drum and Bugle Corps.
